Hawker Lookouts.

Hawker has a number of short distance walking trails to lookouts close by. These all offer something a little different and if you have an hour or two to spare then these are easy and take little of your time.

Jarvis Hill Lookout.

6 Km west of Hawker, Jarvis Hill has for many years been a popular place for the locals to take relatives and friends to share a panoramic view of the Hawker area, including the Worumba Hills to the east, Wilpena Pound, Elder Range and Wonoka Hill to the north, and Yourambulla Range to the south.

This is certainly the one not to be missed so try to make it to Jarvis Hill Lookout and take your camera with you. Jarvis Hill is so named as it is on a property owned by the Jarvis family who were early settlers in this district.

Police Hill Lookout.

Police Hill offers panoramic views of Hawker and district. The walking time is approximately 40 minutes. Starting from the Post Office walk along Elder Terrace to the Hotel where you cross the road and pass through the large gate. Then follow the track to the top of the hill where you will find a large stone painted with directional arrows. From here you can see Wonoka Bluff, Wilpena Range, Chace Range, Yappala range,  and Yourambulla Range.

Police Hill was so named because it was used as a paddock for Police horses and of later years as a pound for straying stock found in and around the town.

Camel's Hump Scenic Lookout.

Situated on a Rocky outcrop 1.8Km's south of Hawker along the Quorn - Leigh Creek Road.

Castle Rock scenic lookout.

This is another rocky outcrop just east of Hawker. Travel towards Wilpena for 2 kms then turn right onto a dirt road for 1 Km to the top of a rise. Here you will find the access gate from which you can walk to Castle Rock. Kangaroos are commonly seen while on this walk.

Arkaba Hills Lookout.

North of Hawker you will travel 22 kms along Wilpena road to a lookout over the beautiful Arkaba Hills. These are the hills which inspired renowned artist Sir Hans Heysen. His paintings of these hills brought him world wide recognition. The Heysen Trail which traverses the Flinders Ranges and is very popular with bush walkers around Quorn and Hawker was named in his honor.
